Broadstairs · North Foreland
The lighthouse plots, larger detached properties on generous grounds. Longer boundary runs and gate posts sized for driveway swing gates.
North Foreland is the promontory at the north-east tip of Thanet, with the lighthouse as the landmark. The residential mix is high-value detached and executive stock on generous plots, running down to the coast road. Boundary fence runs are the longest we deal with in Broadstairs: 30 to 60 metres is normal, and some of the estate boundaries push into the hundreds.
The wind here is a shade less than Kingsgate proper because the promontory sits marginally lower, but it is still serious weather. Post spec is 750mm below ground, concrete posts, gravel boards, closeboard. Salt-air standard for hardware. The chalk is close to the surface (100 to 300mm of topsoil is typical) which makes the augering fast: a two-hand team can put in 40 to 60 post-holes in a day here where the ground is right.
The gate spec at North Foreland skews to driveway swing gates: 3m to 5m clear openings, timber or metal, often with automation. The gate post sizing is where the local nuance sits: a 4m double-leaf timber gate hanging on a standard 200mm gate post will pull the post out of the ground on a winter gale, so we go 250mm x 250mm timber or 200mm SHS steel with a deep concrete footing on every driveway gate here.
