Quieter than Viking Bay, adjacent to Louisa Bay, larger detached and semi-detached stock with generous rear gardens. Standard workhorse fencing territory.
Stone Bay is the next beach north of Viking Bay, with Louisa Bay wedged between them at high tide. The residential streets above (Stone Road, Fairfield Road, the Warren) are larger detached and semi-detached family houses, with a stronger owner-occupier mix than Viking Bay. Rear gardens are more generous: typical fence runs are 15 to 30 metres, and closeboard is more common than panel because owners want the fence to last.
Wind exposure at Stone Bay is a step up from Viking Bay: the north-easterly is more direct and the cliff sits lower. We go 750mm on post-holes on any run within about 200m of the cliff edge, and 600mm inland from that. Concrete posts standard, gravel boards standard, hot-dip galvanised hardware standard within about half a mile of the sea.
Salt-air corrosion on gate hardware is the most common repair call we get from Stone Bay: five to eight year old zinc-plated hinges failing on rear-garden gates. We upgrade to hot-dip galv and stainless coach bolts as the standard replacement.
